- Duration of recovery or stay.
If the patient does not have a sibling or well match donor in the family, it will require high-resolution HLA typing on the patient (Allele level HLA typing — 4 digit typing on HLA A, B, C, DR & DQ) by molecular method.
After high-resolution HLA typing, we will search for suitable volunteer stem cell donors from various national and international donor registries.
The cost of an unrelated donor transplant will be approximately USD 75, 000–90, 000. The cost depends mainly on the donor registry that provides suitable match donors (NMDP cost much higher than DKMS & Indian registry). Unrelated donor search does take time a minimum of 2–3 months before the transplant can actually happen.
If we do not find an unrelated donor, the patient will go ahead with a Haploidentical donor transplant from biological parents, siblings, or children. The success of the Haplo transplant is approximately 50% and the cost may be up to USD 45, 000 +/- 5000.
Post-discharge patients will be followed up in OPD for at least 2 months and that will cost additionally.
If a patient needs salvage chemotherapy to bring disease into remission, then it will cost approximately USD 17000 +/- 2000. (The cost will be added to the transplant cost.)
The Final line of treatment will be decided after the outcome of clinical assessment and evaluation. Estimate cost & stay may vary accordingly.
