What is Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)?
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), is caused due to a blood clot that develops within a deep vein in the body, usually in the leg and arm.
A blood clot that has traveled from deep vein to the lungs, Pulmonary Embolism can be deadly. One out of four patients dies from causes related to Deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
DVT Symptoms and Diagnosis
- Pain, swelling and tenderness in one leg
- Warm skin around the clot
- Skin turning to a reddish or bluish color over the affected area.
Prevention of thrombosis
Reduce your risk of thrombosis:
- Stop smoke
- Stop alcohol if possible
- Reduce weight if you need
- Do exercise more if possible
- Take healthy food.
How Is Deep Vein Thrombosis Diagnosed?
- Physical examination
- Ultrasound
- Blood tests
- Venography
- Computerized tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans
